For the short film ‘Al Alamayn’, directed by Christiaan Bastiaans, I designed the costume for main character played by Johanna ter Steege. The costume is inspired by three strong woman figures (Simone Weil, Isabelle Eberhardt, Ruth Benedict).

For the design I took their strength and fragility as a starting point. I chose a linen fabric and pulled out threads near the bottom of the dress. As a result the upper part appeared more solid in contrast to the loose and refined bottom of the dress. The film is part of an exhibition in the Kröller-Müller Museum in the Netherlands.
