Pinocchio / Mangiafuoco

This is my interpretation of Magniafuoco from Carlo Collodi´s Pinocchio. I made this costume during a training at the International Filmschool in Cologne, IFS.

I envisioned a modern version of the book. My Pinocchio is set in something like a trailer park surrounded by high rises and concrete somewhere in a poverty stricken region in East Germany.

Magniafuoco is a fictional Director and puppet master who seduces children to pay money for seeing his puppet show. At the beginning of the tale, he appears to be gruffy and greedy but as the story develops, we see him evolving into a kind-hearted and compassionate man.

My Magniafuoco refuses to adjust to society and to act according to rules and what is considered normal and decent. His clothes are practical and made of things that he finds on the streets.
